In the Mood for Love is a 2000 Hong Kong film directed by Wong Kar-wai, starring Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung. It premiered on 20 May 2000, at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival,where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or. The beauty of this movie is in its universality. A seemingly slight plot – man and woman move into the same cramped apartment building, gradually realise their respective spouses are having an affair and develop their own halting romance . It's a film about, love; but also betrayal, loss, missed opportunities, memory, the brutality of time's passage, loneliness – the list goes on. Wong Kar-wai, is a Hong Kong based filmmaker, internationally renowned as an auteur for his visually unique, highly stylised, emotionally resonant work.Wong's films frequently feature protagonists who yearn for romance in the midst of a knowingly brief life and scenes that can often be described as sketchy and exhilarating.
