Past I CARE Initiatives

Make-A-Wish Foundation®

IWA choose one Singapore based Charity organization to support. The underlying objective again is to showcase and introduce work done to help alleviate problems in Singapore by NGOs. MAWF fulfills the wishes of terminally ill children. IWA pledged a sum of SGD 5,000 to them and the beneficiary of the donation by IWA was Mohd Farhan. Farhan, 9, has Unbalance Chromosomal Rearrangement of Chromosome 5 & 14. He wished to have a stand up Wheelchair. His wish was granted at a gathering on 3 Dec.

Sinda Kids Day-out!

IWA has a long-term relationship with Sinda’s teach program and over the years volunteers to teach the children in the reading programmes. This year, we took the children out to engage them in a Leadership and Team Building Workshop. This event was in collaboration with HEB through the Sivan Temple.

This was initiated to see if the children Sinda assists could be assisted by exposure to other programs and interaction with the new immigrant Indians.

We found the children very bright and raring to learn. We felt the children will benefit highly from out-of-the-box programs apart from the academic tutoring being provided by Sinda, which is aimed at helping them in school in academic success.

As Indian women we get requests to assist immigrants from India, whether it is from women who come here as maids, or get married into Singapore or for workers who may be injured and have no resources. In 2012, we launched the IWA Relief Service to assist in these areas.

-IWA adopted the Cuff Road project, which assists workers who are injured or have been duped and MOM is helping settle their cases. The project validates that these are legal workers in Singapore and currently, the scheme provides them with food. IWA assists them through other means like pain relief clinics, added fruit supplement, monthly Transit Cards etc. This initiative found a fair response with the Hindu Endowment Board who helped with distributing 100 Diwali boxes at the centre.
-The assistance provided to women-in-need from IWA is limited to an advisory role, and through discussion and understanding, we connect them with the relevant authorities that can help them further. It also includes help and relief assistance where required in emergency situations.
